Materials:

• Costumes: for leaves, koalas and kangaroos. (Can change animals)

• These can be made by the children for extra inlusion in the activity

• If not students could also dress in the colours of their part.

 

Method:

The aim of the activity is to show students that when a habitat changes the animals that live may no longer have their needs met.

 

Situation One:

Loss of leaves from trees from either trees dying off or too many koalas means the koalas need to move on.

 

Situation Two:

Lack of rain results in less water availability; kangaroos need to find move to another area.

 

And/or

 

Development of suburbs results in destruction of habitats; kangaroos need to move to another area.

 

Conduct questioning aftwerwards to help solidfy students understanding.
